Breakin' - Ain't Nobody

Member when?

I seem to be on this "Member when" kick, so I will indulge my readers with another great story. Let's call this one, "The best double feature in the world!"

It was a dark and stormy night. (isn't that how all good stories start?) Well, actually it was a dark and stormy night. My little sister's daycare teacher had decided to take the two of us to see Footloose and Breakin' See, I told you the best double features in the world! We went to the old Eygptian theater. It was a pretty run down place, at the time, but it was also one of my favorites, as a kid. The chairs were pretty broken...one was lucky to get a seat that had both arm rests and fabric covering the seats. That was a luxury. One of the best features of this poor run down theater was the fact that one could watch the movie from the ladies room. No need to miss a moment while urinating.

We settled into our seats, got all comfy, and ready to watch the movies. I still remember the dancing feet on the screen. I was in a dancer's heaven. Oh, I wanted to be the lady wearing the leg warmers and white high heels. If only.....
Footloose was amazing. Breakin' was beginning. I couldn't wait. The storm outside was getting more angry and the thunder/lightning more aggressive. Suddenly, the lights flickered and the movie went off. "I want my money back!" a man yelled out. There was all kinds of chatter in the theater as we sat in the dark waiting and wondering what to do next. I was feeling a bit bummed. I had desperately wanted to see Breakin'. It was, after all, the new craze at my elementary school and I thought it was totally radical. Then, as if, someone upstairs had heard my little eight year old prayer, the movie turned back on, the crowd cheered, and we sat back to enjoy a fantastic movie.

p.s ask my little sis how excited I was to see the sequel "Breakin' 2 Electric Boogaloo" It was all I could talk about. And, I saw it for the first time two years ago. Not bad...

pps. I am at the library typing this up and for some reason it won't let me put on two youtube vids, so I will do another one with Breakin' because you really need to see it!!

Ease on Down the Road

I received a text from the lil' sis and she told me that she was watching "The Wiz" It's an odd take on the Wizard of Oz,but for some reason, we LOVED it. Well, we had the fabulous idea....I'd like to think it was actually a genius idea, that we were going to perform "Ease on Down the Road" for our elementary school's talent show. Genius, right? Oh, it gets ever better. We were going to lead everyone out of the gym, into the field, and then....the best idea EVER....give all the kids candy. Oh, how we talked about the idea for weeks and would ever practice how it would all go down. So, did we actually do this or not? Nah! We were just kids and our ideas were usually much bigger than we could ever pull off, but the movie is still oddly great. The song is a classic and I will be really mad if a high school in the area, that is putting on The Wiz, steals our genius idea.
