I recently got an email from someone and they started out with a nickname that their family has given me, so it got me to thinking about all the nicknames (loved and despised) that I have acquired over the years. I was surprised at how many there are.
1. Witchy nails----I got this one from my big bro. I had to keep my fingernails long, as a child, so
I could defend myself when he was being a mean big bro. hated this one!
2. Fruitcake Margaret---Once while looking at a baby name book, I noticed that Megan is
derived from Margaret. I don't know why, but I liked that. My older
sis then grabbed the book and said, "Well, Megan also means
fruitcake!" Thus, the nickname was born. Hated this one.
3. Nigel------ Have you ever seen the funny movie, "Top Secret"? It was a family favorite. One
of the characters in this movie had short, curly, blond hair. At the time, I had
short, curly, blond hair. My bro. noticed some similarities and they started calling
my Nigel. hated this one.
4. Motor mouth Megan----This one shouldn't be too surprising. I like to talk....A LOT!
5. Wagon---While in 8th grade, I participated in a German Exchange Program. Some of the
Germans thought it would be a great idea to give everyone nicknames. This was
one of mine. Don't ask me how they got it. Like this one.
6. Megadeath----This one also came from the Germans. I guess they thought it was funny that
both Megan and Mega are so similar. Like this one.
7. Squanto---I got this one from a co-worker at this family owned restaurant. It has no
real significance behing it, but I liked it.
8. Shaggy----While on my mission, I hated shaving my legs. I went about 6 months without
doing so. One night, after climbing into bed, I said to my comp. "Goodnight,
Scooby!" And, she called me Shaggy. It just fit. I love this one.
9. Began---I have this cute nephew that adored me and would write me cute letters. He and his
older brother were having an argument over my name. Bear kept saying, "Pretty
sure it's Began!" It stuck and I LOVE this one!
10. May-may---A wonderful family, that I do respite for, started calling me this. I think the
youngest boy in the family couldn't say my name correctly, so he called me may
may. I love this one, too!
11. Miss Mayhaw---a former student and child of the above family would say my name like
Mayhaw. One of my co-workers just started calling me Miss Mayhaw.
I love this one.
