Jury Duty...

That's right! I am a lucky juror. I have been selected to be on a jury for a case that has lasted two weeks. We are in the home stretch. Sitting in a jury box for hours can get a tad bit boring, so I have come up with my own list of things to do while sitting in a jury box and sometimes listening to the witnesses.

10. Give the lawyers nicknames. I have chosen: Speedy G, Props, Chef Boyardee, and Loopy Lon.

9. In your head, give your fellow jurors cute, stylish haircuts.

8. Come up with the dialogue between lawyers and judge at sidebar. "I noticed that tie you are wearing. Where did you get it?"

7. Come up with the dialogue that the lawyers write on the little yellow post it notes that are passed back and forth. "Dude, I totally worked my legs yesterday at the gym and my bum is so sore. Will you take this witness? I can barely stand!"

6. Figure out a way to get students and staff to stand up every time you enter the room.

5. Come up with theme songs for all of the witnesses. For example: It's my party and I'll cry if I want to! But you could change the word party to trial.

4. Make a list of all the words you NEVER want to hear again.....devastated, November, objections, vague, sustained, "let's go for another hour" etc.

3. Imagine how the lawyers and judge spend their evenings. I think one of the lawyers looks like he could be in an after hours band....like Midnight Oil. I think the judge is a temple worker.

2. "If I had to kiss this male witness, could I?"

1. Try super de duper hard to not either fall asleep, fart, or pee my pants.

Farmers Market

My love for the Farmers Market has blossomed from just sheer enjoyment to all out L-O-V-E! I went today because it was the final day of the Downtown Farmers Market. I had about $26 on me and these are the many fantastic things that I purchased:

a grundle of apples...two different varieties
about 10 tomatoes
one spaghetti squash
two ginormous zucchini
one mouthwatering raspberry tart
a loaf of Jewish Rye Bread (from my fav. German Bakery)

I just love the way fresh produce taste and while I do love my local Dan's grocery store, nothing compares (did you just start thinking about Sinead O'Connor? because I did) to the stuff I get from the farmers market. I think I may start my own garden and call myself a farmer. boyhowdy!

My mom is calling.....

Last Friday (October 8), I went to an 80's themed dinner group. I looked great. My hair was perfectly crimped and ratted, my blue eyeshadow looked electric and dynamite, and my self made A-ha t-shirt was looking great. My group dined on some delicious Ethopian food. I shared my plate with a delightful young man that seemed pretty cool. We tore apart our bread stuff and scooped up the food while chatting it up. I thought that I would like to get to know him better....note I didn't say I wanted to marry him or date him, but just interested in getting to know him better.

Well, jump into your DeLoreans and fly into the future...this Wednesday( October 13), I went to a midsingles Institute class and yes, I did go partly so that I could talk to this guy. He didn't show up until after class was over and we were mingling. I walked over to him and started talking to him. He then pulled out his phone from his shirt pocket (and I am thinking, "Oh my gosh, he wants to get my number! So cool!") and then says, "Oh, it's my mom calling. I need to answer this." He then says, "Well, it was nice talking with you." And then walks off.

I told my friend that I guessed if a guy would rather talk to his mom then talking to me, that is not a good sign.

Rejection sucks donkeys.

Um...I am without words!

So, maybe I have a few words. A group of us did American Cancer Society's Strides for Breast Cancer. It was pretty cool. There were a ton of people all dressed up in different outfits, but the kicker was this dude in a green bodysuit. And, let me just tell, dear readers, there was not much left to the imagination.....if you catch my drift! Yuck.

Favorite.......

My favorite thing this week, so far:

When one of my students, who was wearing mittens, started using them for hand puppets. It was hilarious!

I was reading through people's statuses on Facebook. I think I just need to give that whole thing up, but one person put that Boyd K. Packer was an embarassment. To be honest, it made me really sad. I dearly love our prophet and I love our apostles, too. I know that what they say isn't going to be popular with the world and it may not even be popular with many members of the LDS church, but I have faith that they do know what is best for me. I don't follow their counsel blindly. I pray about it and receive confirmation for myself.

I don't criticize leaders of other faiths, so it makes me really sad when people choose to criticize my church leaders. I guess I just don't get it.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's something that has affected my life personally and I am sure almost everyone out there. My challenge to you this month, wear pink in honor of someone who has had the disease and beat it or someone who fought hard, but didn't beat it. It's a simple way of honoring some amazing women (and some men, too!) Also, I will be participating in the Strides for Breast Cancer (or something like that) this Saturday at Liberty Park. It should be pretty cool. I will be walking for my mom.
My thoughts and prayers go out to those that are currently battling this. God Bless You!
